Digital Marketing Roundup – November 2016
We can’t quite believe how little time we have until Christmas – it only seems five minutes ago we were writing this SEO news round-up back in the summer.
But it’s now it November, if you can believe it! We’re already turning our attention to SEO campaigns for the New Year, as well as tying up some loose ends work-wise for 2016. On top of that, we’re making sure our clients have everything they need to ensure their websites are performing well towards the back end of this year and beyond.
So here it is…our SEO news round up for the last month or so before Xmas is truly upon us. In it, you’ll find some useful hints and tips to boost your business’s presence in search engines – all direct from some of our favourite websites from around the net.
As ever – and in much the same way as our own site’s laid out – we’ve divided up this round-up by section to make it easier to digest. You’ll find ‘Increase Visibility’, ‘Engage & Excite’, and ‘Let’s Get Technical’, and each portion of this piece will feature relevant tips for small to medium-sized businesses like ours. Read on…
When it comes down to it, great visibility online is a result of equally great SEO. And here in our ‘Increase Visibility’ section, we’re offering some tips – by way of our most-visited websites – to help you push your own site out to a bigger audience.
Search Engine Watch has compiled this piece which looks at where Google is heading with mobile local search – and we say if you only take time to read one thing this week, it should be this. Find out what you need to know to ensure your site is performing as well as it should be on mobiles as well as websites.
Alongside the aforementioned piece, you might find this one useful: ‘Is Google Killing Mobile Organic Search?’
As many of you know, “Click-through rates for websites depend a great deal on their position in organic search results.” But Search Engine Watch poses the question: “…to what extent are local businesses further compromised as Google pushes all organic results further and further off the bottom of the mobile screen?” – take a look at the piece.
Are you a WordPress user? We know many of our clients are, which is exactly the reason why we’re sharing this piece by Search Engine Land with you. The article ‘WordPress.com adds “advanced” SEO tools, and it’ll make you smile’ does exactly what it says on the tin.
Announcing recently that a small set of ‘Advanced SEO tools’ will be added to the back end of the site, WordPress has just got even better – find out why by heading over to read the full article.
Want to increase your visibility on social media – and on Facebook in general? Mosey on over to SEO.com for an article which offers a how- to when it comes to creating the perfect Facebook ad. You’ll know by now that the site is a powerful marketing tool – and one which shouldn’t be overlooked. After all, when done right, Facebook can help increase your sales without you having to part with any cash.
Of course, a good social media SEO strategy does require time – and a little bit of dedication on your part. But if you have the hours to spare and a spot of determination you can increase the visitors to your site easily and relatively quickly.
Moving onto the next portion of this roundup blog…
Engage & Excite
If you haven’t already checked out the Pro Blogger site, we think you’ll love it. It’s bursting with great information for SEO newbies, as well as those aficionados amongst you. The Evergreen Agency team loved the below piece about some of the new challenges for advertisers and why, in particular, bloggers will be your new best friend when it comes to engaging and exciting your customers – click here for more.
While you’re over on the Pro Blogger site, make sure you have a little dig around – there’s loads of stuff you’ll love, from technical-based SEO insight to more straightforward content-focused blogs.
Swooping in right at the end of October, Rand Fishkin brought us his popular Whiteboard Friday series with this instalment. The piece and accompanying video: ‘How to Craft the Best Damn Ecommerce Page on the Web’ is the perfect read for any of our clients with a retail site.
Rand says there are endless considerations when it comes to crafting this all-important page. Focusing on one of his own favourite examples, he offers a step-by-step guide to creating your best ecommerce page yet – you can thank us (and Rand!) later.
Another way to engage and excite your customers is simply by switching up the way you communicate with them. If you’re used to contacting your subscriber base via email, maybe it’s time you had a rethink. How about, for example, a podcast?
The great thing about audio clips like this is they can be enjoyed while your customers are going about their other daily activities – after all, in this fast-paced digital world aren’t we all a bit too bogged down to be reading emails?
If you’ve toyed with the idea of starting a podcast then, you’ll definitely want to head over to the Blog Tyrant site. Its author has created a definitive guide on ‘adding a killer podcast to your blog’ and we think you’ll gain some really great advice by heading over there – click the link above and pick up some tips.
Still need some convincing? Here’s a few words via Blog Tyrant which may give you a nudge in the right direction:
“Podcasting is now serious business and, for many bloggers, the traffic from search engines like iTunes is catching up to the likes of Google. Supplementing your regular written content with an audio podcast show can be a very smart idea.”
Let’s Get Technical
We know some of our clients aren’t so technically minded, which is why here at The Evergreen Agency we can help on that front. But in the meantime, it’s always worth swotting up on a little industry knowledge – and here are some of the best pieces around the web in October.
We’re not sure if you’re aware, but we recently put together a pretty mammoth SEO guide for small to medium-sized businesses. Whether you have a little knowledge on search engine optimisation or you know nothing at all, we think you’ll be glad you read it.
In a similar vein in October, the folks at HubSpot published this – it’s a roundup of 10 of the best resources to bookmark if you’re looking to learn a little more about SEO.
Meanwhile, in a technically-focused blog for the Moz site, iPullRank put together a piece which looks at ‘The Whys and Hows of SEO’s Forgotten Role in the Mechanics of the Web’. An interesting insight into web technology and its rapid pace, the article suggests that technical SEO is more complicated and more important than ever before – find out why by clicking the link above.
Are you up to speed with the ins and outs of Google Penguin 4.0? If not, check out this piece on SEO Round Table. The article looks at how SEO gurus might try to manipulate the algorithm – and it’s a pretty handy little piece if you could do with learning more about Penguin 4.0. Want to know more? Don’t hesitate to get in touch with the team here at The Evergreen Agency and we’ll let you know how the update might affect or benefit your business.
Over on the Yoast blog, the team brought you its regular ‘Ask Yoast’ post over here. They say: “…in this edition of Ask Yoast, we received a question that belongs in the SEO basics category: what’s a slug?”
If you’re not sure what the answer to Yoast’s latest question is, pop on over there now – you’ll definitely get a few niggling queries answered. If you prefer to watch your knowledge-based pieces, you’ll be glad to know there’s a video on the site too.
Before we go, are you getting the most out of your Google Shopping campaigns? If not, make sure you take a look at one of Search Engine Land’s latest pieces. With Black Friday and Christmas just around the corner, now’s the ideal time to spruce up your campaigns – and the people behind the popular SEO blog have you covered.
We hope our usual monthly roundup has proved valuable? Let us know what you think by getting in touch with the team here at The Evergreen Agency – we’d love to hear from you.
Have a great month and until next time…
