Pinch, punch – it’s the first of the month! And it’s already shaping up to be an extremely busy few weeks ahead for The Evergreen Agency team, with plenty of projects booked in to keep us occupied.

Our website is undergoing a little maintenance in August, with a sparkly, new and improved version soon on the way. For our clients, there are plenty of changes afoot too – and we’re very much looking forward to seeing what’s in store for this month and next.

Without further ado though, here’s what’s been happening in the last week in terms of Search Engine Optimisation…

While we have a physical base – right here in Bicester, Oxfordshire – we’re well aware that many of the companies we work with have an online presence only. With that in mind, one of the latest pieces from the people over at Search Engine Watch might pique your interest a little.

The article – ‘Five Ways to Use Local SEO Even When You Don’t Have a Physical Premise’ – will help you stand out amongst your competitors in just a handful of simple steps. The tactics are suggested by Sam Nemzer from Distilled and one of them includes putting user-focused content on category pages; make sure you check out the rest of the advice.

While you’re over on the Search Engine Watch site, you might like this piece too. It takes a look at 25 SEO acronyms to help those new to the world of search engine optimisation a chance to better understand some of the industry’s most-used terminology.

Do you need a nudge in the right direction in terms of blogging? BlogTyrant’s 8 Step Formula for Blogging Success could be the most insightful piece you read all week. After all, starting a blog (if you haven’t already) may help boost traffic to your website – and it shouldn’t cost you anything at all.

“And while some elements of blogging can be complicated, the overall strategy is not that hard. If you look at almost any successful blog you’ll notice the same few elements.” – so says the team at BlogTyrant, who’ve prepared a pretty failsafe guide to getting blogging right.

Looking for some blogs to subscribe to? Vital’s piece looks at some of the top SEO blogs every marketing manager should check out. The article features three of the best SEO blogs you should be reading every day, as well as 14 more to check out every now and then.

Seeing as a new month is now here, there’s no better time than now to put some new plans into action. HubSpot’s article on increasing your SEO traffic in just 30 days. The free daily planner helps you set up proper SEO for your website.

“While it’s tempting to implement a bunch of quick fixes to get your page ranking in the short term, it’s important that you’re also planning a strategy that will scale in the long term.” – that’s the advice from the team at HubSpot, anyway. Make sure you head over there to discover what else they have to say.

Moving on now, it’s’s usual Whiteboard Friday post – and this one’s on keyword rankings. The website’s Rand Fishkin asks: ‘is the practice of tracking keywords truly dying?’ He says there’s been a great deal of industry discussion around the topic of late – and Rand looks at the biggest challenges keyword rank tracking faces today, as well as how to solve them.

It’s John Chow’s insight into what you can do when people opt into your list – and it offers some great advice.
