In the News This Week

Today’s the day our modest team expands, thanks to two new recruits who’ll join us in our Bicester-based office this morning. The Evergreen Agency has grown so quickly we’re thrilled to be strengthening the company this March; keep your eyes peeled here on the blog over the coming months to see what else is in store for 2016. We have a good feeling this year’s going to be a great one for us.

While our office has been a hive of activity this morning, so has the Internet – specifically, the many SEO-focused blogs and sites out there. Without further ado, then, here’s our roundup of what’s been happening in the big – and ever-changing – wide world of search engine optimisation lately…

At the end of last week, Moz.com’s Rand Fishkin shared his usual Whiteboard Friday video – and it’s a piece of digital marketing content you’ll definitely want to find a few spare minutes to watch. ‘Discovering Which Sites Your Target Audience Visits’ aims to help you find out exactly what it claims to offer on the tin! Identifying your market and ensuring you know them inside out is absolutely key to SEO success, says Rand; find out more by clicking the link above. Oh – and it’ll take just eight minutes of your time to watch the video and read the accompanying piece, so not too long at all!

If you’re new to digital marketing, though, and want to dip your toe into the SEO water by starting with blogs, you’ll want to head straight to Search Engine Watch today.

The site has put together a really informative piece about blogging and how it’s vital when it comes to ranking in search engines. In the piece, its author Matt Morgan says ‘blogging is one of the best ways to do content marketing’, as it helps you deliver a ‘steady stream of content [to your readers] without scaring them away’. Don’t miss Matt’s piece over on the site if your aim this week is to top up your blog with interesting content.

And if you need a little more oomph on the SEO front, you can do far worse than keep an eye on the Yoast site. The team behind the popular SEO blog is about to release an e-book on search engine optimisation – a book they say will be their most extensive yet. It’s set to contain over 200 pages of info and will help you optimise your blog to the fullest. Plus, it’s out in less than a fortnight, so make sure you keep your eyes peeled.

Over on Blog Tyrant there’s another great piece you might like to bookmark. The article, ‘6 New Content Formats that Get Shockingly Good Results’ combines a few tools you might have heard of, with a few you might be unfamiliar with – either way, take a look as there’s plenty of useful info to be gleaned on the site.

One of the latest articles on Search Engine Land – a site which crops up quite a lot here in our weekly SEO news round ups – is this blog on Google’s plan to experiment with local business cards in search results. Confused? In short, the search engine is looking to test a feature that allows local businesses to promote specific content, which can then be shared directly from a ‘card carousel’. Sounds good, doesn’t it?

Make sure you spend some time taking a look around the Search Engine Land site in general, as it’s one of our go-to resources for a reason. You might also like this piece, which simply asks: ‘where will SEO go this year?’ Find out the answer over here – and let us know your thoughts, too!

Until next time…
