7 steps to grow your home, garden, or lifestyle brand now (our exact process revealed)

Share

Growing a home and garden brand isn’t about doing more marketing, it’s about doing it in the right order.

Over the years, we’ve refined a simple, repeatable system that brings structure to the chaos and clarity to the process. It’s called the Home & Garden Success System: a seven-step framework that keeps every campaign focused and every brand growing sustainably.

In this episode of Sessions, Aaron shares exactly how it works and how in-house marketers can use it to bring consistency, creativity, and measurable growth to their own brands.

Start with listening

Before you plan, create, or launch anything, you have to listen. That means taking the time to truly understand your brand’s goals, history, and challenges. We call this the three P’s: the past, the present, and the plan. Look at what’s been done before, what worked and what didn’t, where the business stands today, and what the direction of travel should be.

Listening properly means asking the right questions: the what, why, where, when, and who. It’s about clarity. Because without a clear destination, you’ll just drive in circles.

Audit before you act

Once you’ve listened, it’s time to look under the hood. An audit gives you a real picture of what’s working and what isn’t. That means analysing your ad accounts, email marketing, website performance, customer insights, and sales data.

It’s not the most exciting step, but it’s where the insights live. When you know the facts, you stop guessing and start making decisions that move the needle.

Build a clear, collaborative plan

Now that you understand the business and the data, you can create a plan. This is where strategy meets action. A strong plan aligns marketing goals with business objectives, defines what success looks like, and gets buy-in from everyone involved.

Too often, brands skip straight to execution. But when you take the time to plan properly, every campaign has purpose. It’s your map. Without it, you’ll get lost fast.

Create with strategy, not impulse

Great marketing isn’t about random bursts of creativity. It’s about creating with intent. Once the plan is in place, you can start to bring it to life through content and campaigns. That might mean producing video, photography, copy, and creative that connect directly with your audience and reflect your strategy.

When creativity and strategy work together, the result is consistent, effective, and unmistakably on-brand.

Build the infrastructure to support growth

While your creative team brings ideas to life, your marketing engine needs to be built behind the scenes. This is where the systems, flows, and platforms are set up to make everything run smoothly.

From ad campaigns and email automation to landing pages and reporting dashboards, this stage ensures everything connects and scales properly. Without it, even the best creative can fall flat.

Manage every moving part

Marketing isn’t a set-and-forget process. Once things are live, they need to be managed, measured, and improved. That means monitoring performance, testing ideas, and refining campaigns based on results.

The brands that grow fastest are the ones that manage proactively, not reactively. Consistency in management compounds results over time.

Growth that’s built to last

When you listen, audit, plan, create, build, and manage with purpose, growth becomes inevitable. Not random spikes, but steady, predictable progress. That’s why we use this framework across every client, from independent retailers to national home and garden brands. It removes the guesswork and replaces it with clarity.

For in-house marketers, this system is more than theory. It’s a roadmap you can apply directly to your business, whether you’re running paid campaigns, creating content, or shaping long-term strategy.
