Why department stores are fading and specialists are winning
UFurnish began with a question at home. About eight years ago, while furnishing a newly bought house and buried in WhatsApp links and a spreadsheet, Dee asked why there wasn’t a Rightmove for furniture. Today UFurnish is exactly that: one website that brings the furniture market together, representing over 100 established home and garden brands in the UK. Its Home Awards for content creators grew from 300 entries in 2024 to 1,400 in 2026.
Raymond Wright, Co-Founder at UFurnish, joins Aaron and Darren for a special episode on what he sees across the retailers on the platform. They talk about why brands are moving back to brand building after the post-COVID rush for last-click sales. They also cover why design, function and trust come well before price, and why the best performers stay consistent and consolidate their catalogues instead of discounting.
Ray also shares his take on AI: why he isn’t a fan of AI-generated imagery, why brands need to own their IP, and why he thinks no one will hand an AI agent the job of furnishing their home.
If you want to see how shoppers are really choosing furniture right now, this one is for you.
