We’ve all heard the expression, “cobbler’s shoes”, I’m sure.
It refers to a person who is excellent at doing things for others, but neglects their own needs.
I’m guilty of doing this and I’m sure you have been at some point as well.
This week, I thought I’d share a little insight into what we’ve been up to in the Evergreen HQ.
We decided it was about time we leveraged a little of our expertise for ourselves.
Here’s the story…
So, we’ve got three primary services at Evergreen;
Paid search
Paid social
Creative
A fourth service is coming soon – email marketing.
We’ve been so busy working on client accounts, that we’ve not taken a minute to ask ourselves, “how can we utilise our collective expertise for ourselves?”
Now, we do utilise our creative resources and expertise for ourselves, hence all of the content we create every single week.
Darren, our Head of Creative and his team, do a fantastic job not only looking after our clients, but also ensuring we carve out more than enough time for everything we want to create for Evergreen.
Paid search and paid social, however, are another story entirely.
We’ve not tapped into the 10,000’s of hours of expertise and experience we have within our four walls once and it’s madness.
All that changed this week.
Before I went away on holiday last month, I set Matt, our Head of Paid Social, and Lu, our Head of Paid Search, a task.
I asked them to have a think about how we could use their skillsets to amplify our content and ultimately grow Evergreen.
Skip forward to yesterday and we had a 2-hour presentation from them both to the entire Evergreen team.
They blew my mind!
I’ve been sitting on a goldmine all this time…
The ideas. The creativity. The innovation. The approach.
So clever and completely unlike anything I’ve tried before, I loved it.
I’ve finally had a little taste of what our clients get every week and it was delicious!
This cobbler is finally going to carve out a little time to work on his own shoes.
The point here that I’m trying to make is that while customers will always be your number one priority – they certainly are for us – don’t neglect your own needs, whatever they might be.
While our client work will always take priority, I am now going to ensure that my team incorporate a little time to bring their fantastic ideas to life through paid search and paid social.
Insider tip of their plans: They are essentially going to repurpose all of our video content, turn some of it into ads and use other content for super-targeted brand awareness campaigns with a funnel built on the back of it, which drives people into “Evergreen’s world” where we can add massive value through our content over a number of months and aspire to be their go-to agency of choice when the time is right for them.
Simple idea, beautifully presented and executed. I’ll keep you posted with the results in the coming weeks and months.
