Why We Made ‘FlashAds’: The Power of Playful Creativity in Paid Media

Every so often, creative agencies are at their best when they create for the sake of creativity itself. At The Evergreen Agency, we thrive on turning spontaneous ideas into memorable moments – not just for our clients, but for ourselves. Recently, this philosophy led to the creation of ‘FlashAds’, a playful video project inspired by the classic film Flashdance and the realities of paid media.

The Spark Behind ‘FlashAds’

  • Inspiration came during a conversation between Head of Creative Darren and I while driving to a client meeting.
  • The team recognised a parallel between the world of paid media and the movie Flashdance, particularly the underrepresentation of women in paid search leadership roles.
  • With over two-thirds of paid search leaders being men, the campaign sought to spotlight and celebrate our own leader, Lu, who stands out in the field.

Bringing the Idea to Life

  • What began as a casual voice note quickly turned into a creative challenge: could Lu and the team recreate the famous Flashdance trailer, parody-style?
  • We embraced the project wholeheartedly, with Lu gamely donning leg warmers and the team rallying together for a spontaneous afternoon shoot.
  • The project showcased our willingness as a team to step out of our comfort zones, collaborate quickly, and have fun in the process.

More Than Just a Parody

  • ‘FlashAds’ isn’t just a tongue-in-cheek homage; it’s a demonstration of Evergreen’s culture of creativity, playfulness, and teamwork.
  • The video underscores the value of celebrating team members, breaking industry stereotypes, and embracing humour as a driver of great marketing.
  • This project highlights how even the most technical areas of marketing, like paid search, benefit from a human touch and a bit of light-hearted fun.
