Read Aaron's bio hereThis morning, we were at the Oxford train station so early that even Greggs hadn’t opened its doors. It’s moments like these that make you realise how far you’re willing to go for something you believe in.
For us, today, that meant a four-hour train journey to Bolton to meet a prospective client—a journey that would test our stamina and our commitment to the business we love.
But why Bolton? Why the crack-of-dawn wake-up call and the long, exhausting day ahead? Because, when it comes to winning new clients, especially those who could become long-term partners, showing up in person matters. It’s about more than just a handshake; it’s about seeing their world, understanding their product, and showing them that you’re invested in their success from the get-go.
The journey: It’s about more than just getting there
The client we were heading to see had reached out after consuming our content, watching our T.E.A Talks listening to our Grow with Evergreen Podcast, and following our Evergreen Uncut series. It was a reminder that content is more than just noise in the digital ether; it’s a powerful tool that can open doors you didn’t even know were there.
Arriving in Bolton, the day started with a tour of the client’s manufacturing process. They specialise in handcrafted sofas, made entirely in the UK—a rare gem in today’s market. Walking through their workshop, seeing the care and attention to detail in every piece, reinforced why we were there. This wasn’t just about selling a service; it was about partnering with a brand that values quality as much as we do.
The magic of in-person meetings
The most striking part of the day wasn’t the product, as impressive as it was, but the interaction itself. There’s something irreplaceable about face-to-face meetings. They offer a depth of understanding and a level of trust that simply can’t be replicated over Zoom calls or emails.
We discussed their challenges, explored potential strategies, and yes, even talked about the creative approaches that could help them stand out in a crowded market. But more importantly, we built a rapport that will serve as the foundation for any future work together.
It was a long day, capped off with the satisfaction of knowing that this meeting could lead to something big. The four-hour journey back felt shorter, somehow, buoyed by the excitement of the day’s possibilities. And to top it off, we treated ourselves to a well-earned viewing of the latest “Deadpool” movie—because, after all, balance is key.
The grind doesn’t stop
The very next day, we were back on the road—this time to Essex, to visit a client with the largest hot tub showroom in the South of England. Each new meeting brings its own set of challenges and rewards, and this one was no different. We were there to talk about their business plan, tour their showroom, and brainstorm creative ways to leverage paid media for their brand.
In every meeting, whether up north in Bolton or down south in Essex, the theme remains the same: go where your clients are, understand their needs first-hand, and deliver value that goes beyond expectations.
The results speak for themselves
Fast forward a few weeks, and the results of our whirlwind trips are clear. The Huddersfield bedding brand? Signed. The Essex hot tub client? Already live with their first round of ads, seeing a lovely uptick in leads. As for Bolton? It’s looking promising, with ongoing discussions that could very well lead to another partnership.
What these experiences underscore is the importance of going the extra mile—literally and figuratively. Whether it’s hopping on a train at 5 AM or diving deep into a client’s business to offer tailored solutions, the effort pays off. It’s the difference between being just another service provider and becoming a trusted partner.
Looking ahead
The grind doesn’t stop. In the weeks since these trips, we’ve had several more meetings and have many more on the horizon. The Evergreen UK tour, as we’ve jokingly dubbed it, is far from over. But amidst the hustle, there’s a deep satisfaction in knowing that the work we’re doing is making a real impact for our clients.
So, here’s to more early mornings, more long journeys, and more wins. Because at the end of the day, the effort we put in today is the foundation for tomorrow’s success. And if that means a few more sunrises at the train station, well, we’re more than ready for it.
See you on the road!
