Recently, we embarked on a journey to Leeds to meet with a potential new client in the home improvement sector. This wasn’t a formal pitch, but rather a pre-pitch meeting – an opportunity to shake hands, see their product up close, and build a personal connection.

The journey begins

Our day started early at Birmingham New Street station, where we caught a train for a 2-hour ride to Leeds. While some agencies might opt for virtual meetings, we at Evergreen value face-to-face interactions. As our MD, Aaron, puts it, “It’s so important to get out and actually physically meet the people you want to work with.”

Preparing for the meeting

During the train ride, we reviewed the client’s current digital marketing efforts. They’re heavily invested in paid search and social media, particularly Google Ads and Meta. We noticed some opportunities for improvement, such as expanding into Bing ads and YouTube. Armed with this analysis, we were ready to provide valuable insights during our meeting.

The meeting

Upon arrival, we dove into a 3-hour discussion with the prospective client. The conversation naturally gravitated towards creative services, where Darren’s expertise shone. We conducted a live critique of their website, offering ideas and suggestions on the spot. This collaborative approach allowed us to demonstrate our value and gain a deeper understanding of their brand, target audience, and business goals.

The importance of in-person meetings

As we reflected on the train ride home, it became clear why we prioritised these face-to-face meetings. The insights gained and the rapport built in those three hours would have been impossible to achieve through a virtual call. This experience will enable us to craft a more tailored and effective proposal for the client.

Agency updates

While on the journey back, we took a moment to share some exciting updates about Evergreen:

  • We’ve recruited a new team member with extensive paid media experience.
  • We’re finalists in six categories at the upcoming European Search Awards in Prague.
  • We’ve won another client in the home improvement sector.
  • Our speaking engagements are increasing, with several events lined up for the spring and summer.
