I see a lot of imposter syndrome among small business owners when it comes to their marketing.

Do you ever think to yourself “I should know that”?

Most business owners and marketers I speak to certainly do.

I know I do, the world of business and marketing moves fast, it’s hard to keep up.

Every week on our podcast I have a guest who either feels out of their depth when it comes to marketing or is intimidated when it comes to paid media.

Paid media, which is our area of expertise, is an art.

It takes 10,000 hours of practice to get really good at it. Trust me, I know.

Most business owners I speak to are doing a stellar job spinning many plates.

Marketing and paid media is just one of them.

Everyone is at a different stage in their business journey.

What I say to others and think to myself is that we just need to get 1% better every day.

It’s easy to look on LinkedIn and think everyone is an expert, and that everyone is light years ahead of you.

Sod that for a game of toy soldiers!

Most people fake it until they make it.

So if you catch yourself feeling a little imposter syndrome creep in, despite doing your best, then give yourself a break.

Find some good sources of reliable, trusted information and keep on learning (like those in this here T.E.A Break newsletter).

A good reader, is a good leader.

Get your head into some books, devour some YouTube content.

Whether it’s marketing and paid media you’re wanting to swot up on or something entirely different, we live in the information age so leverage it.

Getting an outside perspective from others is invaluable.

The sentiment of this weeks T.E.A Break came after I watched back the most recent Grow with Evergreen podcast episode, which came out on Wednesday (Link Here).

Charlotte is my guest this week, she runs a small pottery business and came on the podcast to get help with how to take things to the next level.

We get into all sorts in the hour we had together and you can listen/watch it back.

What struck me is her fear of things out of her control and what we call analysis paralysis, preventing progress.

It’s very common and all forms part of this imposter syndrome, which leads to business stagnation.

Food for thought, hopefully.

Just focus on you, stop looking at others and make sure you’re always learning.
