Have you ever heard the saying “Your business is only as good as you are”?

It’s a sentiment I try and live by as it forces me to constantly work on trying to improve.

In my industry of digital marketing and paid media, I have to constantly learn, as things evolve and change so fast.

But, more than that, I think it’s so important to always be striving to improve, learn and grow.

Whether you run a business, a department, a small or large team, or if you’re just getting started in your career, if you can remember to constantly work on yourself, you’ll outperform most folks out there – that’s my experience anyway.

It’s precisely why this week my Head of Creative Darren and I headed to London for a 2-day conference of learning.

Two days to work on ourselves. Beautiful.

We’ve come away with so many key learnings.

Three stand out statements for me personally from the two days were:

  • Look for the successful, not the new.
  • Focus on who you need to be and what you need to do to have what you want.
  • Stories sell, facts tell.

If you think about each of those three statements, they are all so powerful and useful.

I love them.

I feel like a better business owner today than the one who left the office three days ago.

Time away from the office, away from the day to day.

It’s so powerful.

You gain a clarity. You can see things more clearly. You can prioritise better.

I’ve come back with a head full of ideas and things I want to improve.

I’ve only been back in the office for a few hours today and writing this email to you is the first moment I’ve had to stop and think “wow, that was actually so useful”.

So, I want to put it to you. How often do you take the time to work on yourself?

I don’t do it enough, but when I do I always feel the benefits from it.

And if I’m better, then by default my business will be better.

It makes you think doesn’t it because…

The better we are. The better our businesses will do.

Now, while I go pencil in my next days out of the office, I’m going to share with you this weeks content. I hope you enjoy it.
